Early Stage Researcher (PhD student) fellowships

in Particle Physics at the LHC

Applications are invited for several PhD fellowships in the field of particle physics at the LHC, to be funded by the Marie Curie Initial Training Network LHCPhenoNet, recently approved within the 7th Framework Programme of the European Commission.

LHCPhenoNet (http://www.lhcphenonet.eu) is a consortium of several universities and research centres located in Spain, Argentina, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, UK, Switzerland and Austria. It offers an excellent training environment in theoretical particle physics with emphasis on LHC phenomenology, addressing key issues at the interface to the experiments and in close collaboration with the developers of customized open source software in the field of symbolic manipulation and computer algebra.

Positions, to be filled from 01/01/2011 to 30/06/2011 and of 12 to 36 months of duration, are available at IFIC Valencia (Spain), U. Buenos Aires (Argentina), DESY Zeuthen (Germany), U. Silesia (Poland), U. Zürich (Switzerland) and RISC Software (Austria). Travel to other nodes of the network and, in particular, short-term secondements to CERN and to our industrial partners Wolfram Research and Maplesoft are foreseen. Short-term positions of 12 months are meant to start a PhD thesis, or to complete the already initiated PhD studies at the home institution.

Candidates are expected to have an undergraduate or Master degree in Physics or related areas, and must be eligible under the FP7 ITN mobility rules (see http://www.lhcphenonet.eu/jobs).
